Hello
So glad that you have chosen to visit GEMtherapy. A little bit about me, I love art. Many times I find myself captivated by music, poetry, visual arts, dance, dramatic arts, literary works and more. These creative works inspire me, and the mind is the birthplace of creativity.
As someone who loves art and is an actual artist. I incorporate creativity into my work as a therapist. I am NOT a cooke cutter therapist. It is important to me to collaborate with someone. I bring my clinical expertise and creative approach and each person brings their own areas of expertise. Together we accomplish the goals we set for therapy.
My Story
I would call my story a kaleidoscope.
It has been consistently shifting and rapidly changing. The patterns and colors of my life seen are based on the angle and where the light hits. At the same time I am completing my education, I am a single mom struggling, and an artist working in films and music. I am a survivor of Colon Cancer, teen pregnancy, domestic violence and more, yet I am also a successful recipient of many awards, accomplishments, degrees, certifications and career growth.
I come from a culturally diverse background of American, Hispanic and West Indian descent. My mother often teases me that as a child, instead of stray animals, I would bring home my friends in need. I carried a notebook for poetry and lyrics, could be found acting out my own movie, and I wanted to help everyone, often getting in trouble for my often unwanted, childhood counsel. My education and career began in New York city. I have worked with almost every ethnic population, various disabilities and helped individuals with an innumerable amount of challenges that a place like New York city can bring. I have worked at homeless shelters, supportive residences, hospitals, detox/rehab, criminal court, state vocational programs, in home and in office therapy and more. My many and various experiences is what helps me to be able to work seamlessly with individuals of all ages and all backgrounds. It also plays a huge role in my skills as an effective leader, trainer and program developer. I care about what I do.
My goals are to produce workbooks, produce films, make more music and creative works that can help heal the soul. My gifts and talents are to be used, not misused and/or abused. I am a Christian, not by the name or religion, but by demonstration of love. People call me a "very good therapist," and "A great leader," I am certain that it is not only my skills but my compassion and kindness.
